Themes
Terre Altre was created to construct contemporary cultural narratives through moving images, capable of telling the story of the Tuscan Apennines, between Casentino and Valtiberina – a region characterised by a rich historical heritage, vast forested landscapes, and local communities shaped by the contemporary transformations of Italy’s rural areas. The languages of cinema, documentary and time-based art are not viewed as separate categories, but as open and interconnected fields that influence and intersect with one another.
The project aims to foster a dialogue between contemporary artistic practices and local contexts that lie on the fringes of the mainstream cultural scene, highlighting these lesser-known areas as spaces for research, connection and artistic creation. The residencies are aimed at young artists who express themselves through the practices of the moving image as tools for investigation, listening and the construction of imaginaries and relationships, establishing a dialogue with the territory, with nature, with the inhabitants—long-standing residents, returnees and new citizens—bringing to light traditions, contradictions, lines of continuity and fractures, thus treating the context not merely as narrative material but as an interlocutor. It is not a question of representing the place, but of working with it; marginality is not the periphery but a critical position; the landscape is not a backdrop, but a field of tension; it is political infrastructure, a living archive, an ecological device.
Who it is aimed at
Artists, filmmakers, video artists, directors and curators interested in developing works involving moving images (short films, documentaries, video art, experimental films, installations).
Requirements:
- willingness to reside in the area for the entire duration of the programme
- active participation in public activities
- ability to work collaboratively
- interest in participatory and inclusive practices
Final output
Each participant will create an original work to be presented at:
- An installation exhibition at CasermArcheologica
- A public festival in the municipality of Subbiano
